We are back to beautiful Bear Creek Lake State Park for the 2024 Unravel. Our 2023 participants loved the course, so we figured why change a great thing?! Same great course as last year that incorporates a combination of county gravel roads, fire road, some rural roadways, and .75 miles of singletrack. And it’s an RVA Racing event with course designed by our friends at Outpost Richmond - which means “Guaranteed Gut-Punching Gravel”
WHEN: October 20th, SUNDAY
WHERE: Bear Creek Lake State Park, 22 Bear Creek Lake Rd, Cumberland, VA 23040
RACE STARTS: 9:00 for all Categories (racers will go off in waves by category)
PRE-REGISTRATION: CLOSES on Sunday, 9/29 @11:59 PM
REGISTRATION FEES: $45 until January 1st, $55 until April 1st, $65 after April 1st
DAY OF REGISTRATION: $75 Cash, Venmo, or Check.
NOTE: NO Day of/walk-ons for ELITE Categories
RACE CHECK-IN: 7:00 - 8:30 AM SHARP at the RVA Racing Events tent
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CATEGORIES & AWARDS
Race Categories will be “locked in” on September 15th. What that means:
Categories will be consolidated (or split) based on registrations on 10/15 at midnight.
BikeReg will be updated, and new registrants will still be able to enter but may find some categories have been removed or combined.
Cash payout for ELITE field will be determined based on entries at that time!
Remember, payout starts at 10 racers and increases with more entries.
Why?
We need 5-racers to make a category (why - see podiums below)
So we can get some amazing awards to recognize your hard work and keep entry fees reasonable for you while managing costs on our end.
Our vendors/partners keep an eye on the numbers and that greatly effects level of participation for some.
Ordering awards/prizes requires planning and lead time (typically 3-4 weeks).

We recognize podiums 5-deep.
Awards/Prizes go 3-deep.

ABOUT THE COURSE: we have a 31.4 mile course with ~2,344' of elevation gain each lap mapped out by our friends at Outpost. And those boyos know a thing or two about back-country gravel. We will start out in the park and use mostly county gravel roads with some trail and creek crossings. No two ways about it, this is Gravel Grinding at its finest and you're gonna work for this one!

IMPORTANT: a USA Cycling (USAC) license is NOT required to race the Unravel Gravel; however, the Virginia State “Champion’s Title” is only open to Virginia residents who hold an annual USAC license. Podiums: What this means is that for the Unravel 100K Race, we will have 2 podiums. The first for overall winners in each category that reflect actual race-day ranking. Then a second VA State Champion’s podiums, where the podium shifts to remove non-VA residents and/or those without USAC annual licenses.
Prizes: will be awarded to overall winners and State Champions receive a USAC championship medal.
Champions Jerseys: are awarded to USAC State Champions (annual license holder)
